Applying Communication/Media Outcome Project

One of the assignments in my Senior Seminar class was to develop an artifact specifically to use in this portfolio that exemplifies the Communication and Media Studies departmental learning outcome(s). The learning outcome that I believe this project best suits is “The ability to understand emerging communication and media technologies, and the complex causes and opportunities of that evolution.”. To me, this objective means that the student is able to work with different technologies relating to media and find a way to make these media technologies work for their end goal or final project despite complexity of that media technology.

I chose the “Applying Communication/Media Outcome Project” to represent this departmental learning outcome was because I worked with several different media to complete this project. For this project, I developed a magazine that gives incoming and prospective Plymouth State students and idea of what residential life is like here at PSU. Within the magazine, there are links to different websites that provide additional information to the reader of the magazine. To develop the actual magazine, I used the program Canva and had to navigate their website and adapt to the user interface for this website while creating the magazine.

This project shows that I have successfully met the learning outcome of “The ability to understand emerging communication and media technologies, and the complex causes and opportunities of that evolution”. I had to work with a media that can be tricky to learn the advance capabilities of. For this project, I dug through multiple different websites (i.e. Plymouth.edu, Collegeboard.org, Facebook.com, Pressbook.com) in order to access the most information that was available to me. When I wasn’t able to find the information that I needed or wanted to include, i reached out to multiple different residential life staff members who I thought would be able to give me the most accurate or up to date information for me to include in this project.
