About

My name is Samantha Knapton and I am a senior Communication and Media Studies major at Plymouth State University in Plymouth, New Hampshire. I am originally from Warwick, Rhode Island. This portfolio is serving as a reference for me to show off the work that I have done within the Communication and Media Studies department during my time here at Plymouth State. I have done a lot of different projects and papers within the department, but this collection of work is what I feel the proudest of to show with future employers and others who may be interested in seeing what a student in the Communication and Media Studies department at PSU learns about during classes.

During my time at Plymouth State, I have had many opportunities to develop my leadership skills and to work with many different people as a team. My first experience was as a Community Advisor for Residential Life. I began my position as a Community Advisor in 2017 and I instantly felt like I belonged in the role. I love working with residents and helping them have a successful and memorable time at Plymouth State. In the Fall 2019 semester, I was selected to be a Lead Community Advisor, a position that allowed me to challenge myself and enhance my understanding of what working in Residential Life is truly like.

Also during my time at Plymouth State, I was inducted into the Communication and Media Studies National Honor Society, Lambda Pi Eta Pi Omega Chapter, and I was also the President of the Chapter during the 2019/2020 academic year. Outside of academics, I was the Photographer and Photo Editor forĀ The Clock, Plymouth State’s student run bi-weekly newspaper.

After graduating from PSU, I want to work in Residential Life before returning to school to get my Masters of Education in Higher Education and Student Affairs. I plan to use the knowledge I learned through my Communication and Media Studies classes in my future work within Residential Life. The knowledge Communication and Media Studies classes have given me is transferable to many different disciplines, so I feel confident that the classes I have taken here at Plymouth State have more than prepared me for my work beyond my undergraduate degree. This portfolio of work will show just that.
